Good Life Survey

We designed this survey to measure some of the major drivers identified in the field of Positive Psychology. All told, the survey should take 15 minutes or less to complete.

So, what exactly is “the good life”? Surely it means different things to different people—grounded in one’s principles and values. Some people define the good life as optimal functioning or flourishing in one’s life. Others use it synonymously with subjective well-being (meaning you’re doing great because you believe it to be true). Often though these and other descriptors get reduced to one word: happiness. In recent decades, traditional psychology has been more focused on alleviating suffering and mental illness than looking at what drives well-being and positive life outcomes. The focus is often on what’s wrong in your life rather than what’s right about it. The empirical science of Positive psychology is focused on helping people pursue the good life—a state in which:

  • You are flourishing in your life
  • You are happy and contented with who you are and what you have
  • You are optimistic about the future
  • You have loving relationships in your life
  • You are leveraging your strengths

Positive Psychology describes at least 5 pathways—major dimensions of your life– that get us closer to this goal (positive emotions, engagement, meaning and purpose, positive relationships and character strengths). The aim of positive psychology is to broaden and build each of these dimensions as they all play a major role in driving happiness.  Learn More

At the end of the survey, you will receive a score for each of these dimensions as well as an overall “happiness” score. We will also provide you with an explanation of the scores and several caveats for interpreting the results. Finally, we provide you with a few suggestions as follow up to this survey.   Note: the Good Life Survey does not report results on character strengths.  Instead, we recommend that you take the VIA Strengths Survey available at Values in Action Survey .

I just completed the Good Life Survey. The results came up quickly and I was impressed with the feedback. I am truly one of the most positive people I know, but see that I could use a weekend on a mountaintop to reassess a few things!
