Personal, emotional and social intelligence all play an important relationship-building role in the workplace.  The presence of positive relationships at your job can make the difference between a successful, fulfilling work experience—and one that feels dissatisfying and alienating.

How do both positive and negative emotions help us function effectively? Can they be raised? And most importantly, how will you, your employees and your clients benefit? In the workplace, a positive environment clearly influences the happiness of employees and directly contributes to the bottom- line success of organizations.

Many people can not answer the question, “what are my strengths”. Becoming aware of your strengths and using them in your everyday life contributes to your overall happiness. By exercising strengths, people are more likely to experience positive emotions, to engage in valued activities, to achieve a sense of meaning and purpose in life, and to build positive relationships with other people. These experiences in turn lead to a more productive, satisfying and flourishing life.

People  often seem to be motivated in their lives by external factors such as financial reward, recognition, and powerful forces of conformity.  Yet we do have a choice in this matter.  Our endeavors in the world can be authentically motivated from within.  Essentially, we can develop an intrinsic quality of motivation that is fueled by the ideas and the ideals that are most important to us.

One cannot overemphasize the importance  of work to our sense of meaning (the emotional significance of what we do) and purpose (the impact we want to have on the world).  During working years, life satisfaction can be strongly affected by the level of meaning people find in their work.  People tend to put more energy into jobs that they believe contribute positively to the world.  They are also more resilient in the face of setbacks.

Gratitude has been shown to raise positive emotion, an important determiner of efficiency, success, productivity and employee loyalty. Employee happiness is negatively associated with absenteeism, turnover and burnout. Positive emotions such as gratitude can fuel optimal functioning, helping whole organizations to thrive and prosper. Some of the power of gratitude in organizations may stem from its ability to offset toxic workplace negativity.

Engagement, or flow as it is often called, is experienced when you are deeply delving into an activity where your strengths are engaged in the pursuit of clear, challenging goals that you can achieve.  Flow is a key component of creativity and occurs at the point where your talents meet your challenges.  You are engaged in activities for that activity’s own sake (what is called intrinsic motivation), and not because you expect any recognition or compensation.  Above all, occasions of flow are deeply gratifying experiences.

Resilience means adapting and advancing past a setback. Resilience At Work teaches you how to develop flexible thought patterns, so that when faced with a situation that tests your mettle, you are better able to quickly identify the best solution and move forward with confidence
