Our team
Lizzie White and Alan Foster are the founding members of Zone Positive. They met while attending the Masters of Applied Positive Psychology program (MAPP) at the University of Pennsylvania. They have been joined by several other members of the MAPP class who have specific expertise as coaches: Lee K. Bohlen, Kathryn Britton, and Eleanor Chin. Read more about our team members below. Lizzie started her career in marketing a few decades back rising to the level of senior vice president for American Express in New York. In 2000, she struck out on her own, in part to experience the ups and downs of starting a new business—but she was also seeking a change in lifestyle. The years of travel and commuting were taking their toll on her life satisfaction. For seven years thereafter, she became involved in the fitness industry, launching a franchise business that was ultimately purchased by a leading weight management company. Her interest in Positive Psychology was peeked after reading Martin Seligman’s book, Authentic Happiness which ultimately led to enrolling in his masters program at the University of Pennsylvania. With degree in hand now, she is eager to spread awareness and application of this science far beyond the classroom. An MBA graduate of The Wharton School, Elizabeth and husband Richard are proud parents of daughter Katherine and son John.
Alan started his career aged 18 in a rural secondary school in Zimbabwe setting up HIV & AIDS awareness programs. From there he went to study Economics at Cambridge University in UK and earned his MBA from INSEAD in France. He became a management consultant with Bain & Company where he has worked for over ten years. Somewhere in there he trained with the Coaches Training Institute to be a coach. He started taking on clients on the side in addition to his day job. In 2007 discovered Positive Psychology and hasn’t looked back. Looking at what went did his Masters in Applied Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania. Alan is also on the board of Partners for Livable Communities, a national, nonprofit organization working to restore and renew our communities. Alan and his wife, Christine live in Brooklyn, NY. They love traveling to far-flung places –most recently backpacking in Colombia and canoeing in Zambia. Lee K. Bohlen began her coaching career in 1992 with pioneers in the field Thomas J. Leonard and Henry Kimsey House (Coaches Training Institute) as her mentors. Since then she has coached hundreds of artistic professionals and entrepreneurs. In 1999, she joined Exec/Comm, a communications training firm based in New York City, as a coach and consultant in order to help executives, lawyers, accountants, scientists, and financial-services professionals improve their professional presence, organizational abilities, and interpersonal skills. Lee K. noticed that many of her engagements began with what was “wrong” and a request to “fix” it. This led her to become interested in the study of what is right with people and business. After completing the University of Pennsylvania’s Masters of Applied Positive Psychology, Lee K. is now applying the principles of positive psychology in her coaching practice with individuals and small businesses. In addition to her MAPP degree, Lee K. holds a BFA from the University of Connecticut, resides in Albany NY and is the proud mom of two sons, Casey and Andrew. Kathryn

engineer with recent education in applied positive psychology, the science of

from Stanford University and MS degrees in Computer
Science and Library Science from UNC-CH in addition to her MAPP degree from

Trained at the Coaches Training Institute in life coaching and at the Center for Right Relationship in Organizational and Relationship Systems coaching, she is also a member of the International Coach Federation. She is enjoying spreading the word about positive psychology as the evidence base for coaching. Ms Chin’s writings include a regular column in Positive Psychology News Daily, writing on coaching and parenting. A former museum professional, she has also published articles in the museum journal Hand to Hand and in the Association of Youth Museum’s anthology Collective Vision: Starting and Sustaining a Children’s Museum. She is also a contributing author in a chapter on women’s networks and mentoring in the book The Glass Ceiling in the 21st Century: Understanding Barriers to Gender Equality, recently published by the American Psychological Association. She and her husband have been happily married for over 25 years and have a daughter, who is a recent graduate of Columbia University.
